A Way Home isn’t just an organization, it’s an international movement for change. We engage in shared learning across Canada and around the world about what’s working in the areas of policy, planning and practice to transform our response to youth homelessness. We also work to create new knowledge to fill the gaps. We support service providers, communities and all orders of government to implement effective solutions.

STRATEGIC FOCUS

Our strategic focus is to reimagine solutions to youth homelessness through transformations in policy, planning, and practice. This work necessitates innovation at every stage.

POLICY

Youth homelessness is a fusion policy issue, meaning that the many systems that drive young people into homelessness must also be part of the solutions. We are committed to “solutions-focused” advocacy and policy-making, all driven by evidence.

PLANNING

A Way Home Canada provides systems planning thought leadership, training & technical assistance to communities and all orders of government. We are founding partners of the Systems Planning Collective, where we work to build the capacity of others to do this work well.

PRACTICE

We work with partners across the country to support the practical shift in how we respond to youth homelessness from primarily a crisis response to one that focuses on prevention and sustained exits from homelessness. We also host the National Learning Community on Youth Homelessness, which is a pan-Canadian community of practice of service providers.

INNOVATION

We create new knowledge and mobilize existing knowledge on prevention and sustained exits from youth homelessness. We co-lead the Making the Shift Youth Homelessness Social Innovation and Demonstration Labs alongside the Canadian Observatory on Homelessness at York University.
